Gila Cliff Dwellings
The Gila Cliff Dwellings sit about two hours north of Silver City, New Mexico. The Mimbres Culture inhabited the area between 1275 and into the early 14th century. The dwellings are said to have been constructed over the course of one hundred years in two phases, by multiple cultures. Hopi oral tradition refers to migrations throughout the area in response to environmental changes. Tree ring dating of the wood used in some of the structures determines one phase of the construction was between 1276 and 1287.
